Licenses and Accreditations
Spofford is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Services to Families and Children, an international accrediting body that promotes best practice standards and champions quality services for children, youth, and families. In 2006, Spofford was named a Community of Excellence by the Council on Accreditation, a designation reserved for the top-five percent of agencies meeting the highest standards of care.
Spofford is also licensed by the Missouri Division of Family Services and holds contracts with the Missouri Department of Mental Health., Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services, as well as private insurers.
Spofford is member of the Alliance for Children and Families, Child Welfare League of America, Cornerstones of Care, and the United Ways of Greater Kansas City .
Spofford is a National Mission Institution of the United Methodist Church.
History
In 1916, Mrs. Thomas M. Spofford gave her mansion at 25th and Paseo to the women of the Methodist Episcopal church to be used as an orphanage. More than 90 years later, Spofford continues to provide hope and healing to abused and neglected children as well as preventative, community-based services that build family strength and foster child success at home, school and in the community.
